Residential pitch and playground

A residential development fitted with a fenced football pitch and a children’s playground, both laid on the same artificial grass, with landscaped planting along the edge.

Putting a pitch and a playground in one space is a safety question before it is an aesthetic one. Under play structures the ground has to absorb a fall from the highest free height: that is what EN 1177 sets, and it is calculated structure by structure, not by eye. The pitch needs the opposite: a firm, even surface.

So the two zones took different underlays beneath a visually continuous grass, which reads as one space without compromising the shock absorption.
